Sourcing With Intention
Grain was founded on the principle of sourcing every single ingredient that comes into our shop with intention. Lauren could likely tell you not only which purveyor each ingredient was sourced from, but where it was grown, who (the farmer) grew it, how it was grown (practices), and probably even why that farmer does what they do! We source 75-85% of our ingredients locally - anything that can be grown locally, we source locally - and those ingredients are all grown sustainably by organic standards (not all local ingredients are certified organic because of the financial hindrance of certifying a small farm). The remaining 15-25% of our ingredients are ones not offered locally that we source organic, fair-trade. Sustainability and regenerative agriculture is the way of our future, and it is what we are all about. Plus, isn’t it nice to be able to swing by your local farm and have a conversation while grabbing produce that hasn’t been on a truck for who knows how long?
